Background

The New Zealand Institute of Management and Leadership (NZIM) is one of Aotearoa’s leading executive and professional training organisations, running programmes throughout the country from Auckland to Invercargill.

Their existing site had served them well for nearly ten years, but the underlying technology was reaching its end-of-life. This meant a redevelopment was an excellent opportunity to rejuvenate their online presence from the ground up.

NZIM Website home page

A Fresh Look

The new NZIM website is injected with a fresh, contemporary feel, while staying true to their existing brand. This new look isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about making visitors feel welcome and guiding them effortlessly through the variety of courses and opportunities NZIM offers. This approach encourages exploration as well as signing up for courses, enhancing both user experience and NZIM’s reach.

The small details add up to a big difference — like how smoothly pages transition, and how intuitive each click feels — every detail is there to make their journey more enjoyable and straightforward. This kind of care in design not only makes users feel more at ease but also paints NZIM as an organization that values quality and attention to detail.

Advanced Content Management

It’s not only visitors to the site that need a great experience, an often overlooked part of the user experience is content management. For NZIM, this meant embracing an advanced CMS that could handle the complexity of their course offerings while still being user-friendly. This is where Sanity, a powerful headless CMS, becomes a game-changer.

The website uses a Design System with a modular approach to structuring content that gives website administrators flexibility when creating and managing web pages. Each page can be assembled like building blocks, with various components such as text, images, video or course listings. This approach empowers NZIM to tailor their content to specific needs without being constrained by rigid templates.

React’s component-based architecture allows for reusable UI elements and, combined with the power of NextJS, is ideally-suited to this modular approach.

NZIM Website course schedule management

Simplifying Scheduling

Managing an extensive course schedule can be daunting. The new NZIM website allows administrators to easily update and manage course information with an intuitive interface that simplifies the process of adding or modifying course details, making it straightforward even for those without technical expertise. This means course schedules can be kept up-to-date with minimal hassle, directly benefiting both the staff and the end-users.

NZIM Website course schedule and booking process

Best-in-class Booking

A critical component of NZIM’s website is the course booking process, which has been meticulously designed to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience. This process is central to the site’s functionality, directly impacting user engagement and course enrollment rates. The booking journey is designed with clarity and simplicity in mind. Users can easily find their desired course, thanks to the well-organized course catalog. From there, a few intuitive steps lead them through the enrollment process. This straightforward approach minimizes confusion and enhances the overall user experience.

Each step of the booking process is accompanied by clear information and guidance, ensuring that users understand what is required at each stage. This transparency is crucial in building trust and confidence in users, especially for those making their first online course booking. Feedback from users has been very positive, highlighting how easy the new booking process is.

Flexibility without Complexity

The new website has streamlined NZIM’s digital operations and provides a robust platform to support their digital strategy in the future. Whether it’s highlighting new courses, updating schedules, or creating engaging content, the revitalised platform adapts to their evolving needs — crucial for an institution that prides itself on staying ahead of the curve.
